Second round of 2006 Twilight Series completed

The fine Adelaide weather started to break up as paddlers arrived at Holdfast Canoe Club on the Patawalonga at Glenelg and during the race gentle rain kept paddlers cool and the spectators damp. Apart from the rain, conditions were ideal for the 26 paddlers and some excellent times were recorded.  The course was 6 laps of the Pat making a 12 km course overall.  The Patawalonga Lake is an excellent venue for these evening races, with great spectating along the shore and for competitors, a chance to see where the opposition is.
It was great to see 22 boats on the water with paddlers from Holdfast Bay CC, Onkaparinga CC and West Lakes CC competing in this event along with the MCC stalwarts.  OnkaparingaÕs new TKI from Competition Kayaks had a good workout by MCC President, Greg Roberts.

It was good to see some novice paddlers under the guidance of Bill Griffin, come along for some experience as part of their training programme for the Murray Events in June, and again Marc BrehinÕs South Coast group came along to provide some serious competition.

Hot food and drinks were provided by Holdfast club to round off an excellent eveningÕs event.

Thanks go to Holdfast Bay CC for hosting this MCC race, to Martin Finn (race starter) and Sue Speck (timekeeper), to Bill Griffin and Marc Brehin for bringing along paddlers from the South Coas, and to all the paddlers who supported this race.

Next race on 22 February 2006 at West Lakes, registrations from 6:00pm.
