Christmas Race

The Annual Christmas race is on again

Hosted by the Marathon Canoe Club of South Australia continuously for more than 30 years the Christmas race is a highlight of the clubÕs social calendar.

The event is traditionally held on the last Saturday in November and this yearÕs race will be held on Saturday the 27th of November.

The start will be at Blanchetwon and the finish line will be at Swan Reach.

In the interest of historical records there will be a 29km LD course for the serious paddlers. A shorter course of apx 14km will be offered for the social punter. Both courses will finish line at Swan Reach.

Registration will be open from 12noon

Briefing will be at 12.30pm

Race start will be 1.00pm

It would be greatly appreciated if you could please arrive early for this event.

By the way; donÕt forget to lodge your ÒSands of timeÓ estimate at registration.

Craft will be subject to scrutineering prior to briefing. Each craft must be positively buoyant. Every paddler must wear a PFD, have adequate water and sun protection.

CanoeSA and Aust Canoeing have advised all clubs that registration costs for such events will include an insurance fee for non-CSA/AC members of $10. This includes Surf lifesaving members, Outrigger members and others who are not direct members of Australian Canoeing or who are non-financial at the date of the event.

We have been informed that water levels are very good for the event with recent water being released through Lock 1.

For those who wish to stay the night there is accommodation available at the Caravan Park. Showers are also available from the Caravan Park for a small cost.

Christmas tea will be at the Swan Reach Hotel for tea at 6.00pm preceded by 5.30pm drinks.
