4 Island Ocean Race

Marathon paddlers attend 4 Island Ocean Race

On Sunday of the January long weekend Encounter Paddling jointly hosted the 4 Island Ocean race with Paddle Sports SA. The event was a significant success in good conditions.

Although the race is traditionally a downwind race designed to attract surf ski paddlers several of our regular Marathon Paddlers supported the event, paddling sea kayaks.

Paddlers started rolling up and unloading an hour before the start at Encounter Bay and there was excited anticipation as the briefing was delivered.

Conditions were interesting from the start with a South Westerly swell quelled by the dominant Easterly breeze. However good times were set over the 10km course with the sea kayaks pushing into the wind and chop all the way to Horseshoe Bay, Port Elliot.
