World Masters Games

The World Masters Games marathon canoe and kayak events have been completed with several good performances recorded by South Australian paddlers.

Day 1 of competition in the singles was tough for the South Australians with several unfortunate exits. However day 2 heralded brighter results with Marc Brehin, Garth Tierney, Mel Mason, Ian Price and several other paddlers from South Australia all receiving medals for their efforts.

The venue for the WMG Canoe & Kayak marathon was the Nepean River at Penrith and what a great facility it is. However despite the good facilities conditions did not favour the organisers with strong winds and generally warm conditions on both days of the marathon paddling.

Some 28,200 competitors are in Sydney for the seventh World Masters Games, aged between 24 and 101 with an average age of 50. The 28,200 participants, the biggest attendance ever, makes the seventh Games almost three times the size of the Sydney Olympics in terms of competitor numbers.

You will find the results for day 1 and day 2 of competition below.
