Bay Sports Festival

Bay Sports Festival

The Bay Sports Festival is well known in South Australia as one of the states premiere sports festivals and includes the nationally famous Bay Sheffield sprint race. However the festival is more than just a foot race with swimming, cycling, beach running, beach volleyball and canoeing all forming part of a wider sports festival.

As an integral part of the Bay Sports Festival there were again paddling events on the Patawalonga over distances of 200 metres, 500 metres and a concluding 6km distance.

Conditions were fantastic on the day with light winds of under 5knots providing a beautiful light breeze for competitors who were out on the water. The temperature never got over 25C during the morning and all paddlers certainly revelled in the perfect conditions.

This is a must do event for any paddler who has not attended a Bay Sprts Festival. There are great opportunities to participate at any level and the diverse range of abilties, fitness and craft means any paddler will find a place within the field.

It is now the sixth year that the Holdfast Canoe Club has hosted the canoe, kayak and surf ski event as part of the Bay Sports Festival under the guidance of experienced Competition Director, Martin Finn. Congratulations must be given to Martin and the Holdfast Bay Canoe Club for running such a spectacular event.
