20th Anniversary SA Murray 200 is coming

Your First CANOE MARATHON?
Do you own a kayak or have you paddled recently?
Have you ever thought about improving on your kayaking skills or general fitness?

Well the Queens Birthday weekend every year sees South AustraliaÕs Riverland region host the Marathon Canoe Club of SAÕs Canoe & Kayak Marathon. If you are a first time marathon paddler then you could consider participating in the Canoe & Kayak Marathon as relay team member. All you need to do is get a team of 3 or 4 together, start some training, maybe even find a cause that you can raise funds for as you paddle.
2007 will be a great year and by participating in the Murray Relay event you can be involved in one of AustraliaÕs premier long distance canoe marathons. Participation in the event might initially sound daunting and onerous but past participants will assure you that the relay category which spans short distances over 3 days will allow you to participate. Paddlers completing the 100km distance as a relay normally start around 10am and finish paddling mid afternoon. Whereas more experienced kayakers might choose paddle the full distance of 208km from Berri to Morgan starting at 7am.
This years Giant Canoe & Kayak marathon will be held over the QueenÕs Birthday Long Weekend in June from the 9th to the 11th and interested persons should commit now and start training soon. Potential kayakers and canoeists interested in learning about paddling as a recreation might wish to train with a dedicated Canoe or Kayak club such as the Onkaparinga club which trains on a Wednesday night and Saturday morning or the Encounter Lakes group which trains in Victor Harbor on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Interested persons wanting to know more about Marathon Canoe Club events should contact MCC President Greg Roberts via email at mcc@paddle.org.au.
For information about JuneÕs Canoe & Kayak Marathon interested persons should contact Promotions Officer Brad Butler at brad@bbpl.com.au or by phone on (08) 8552 2411.
