YMCA Victoria launch Murray Marathon
The YMCA Victoria is very pleased to be taking over the management of the Murray River Marathon.
This iconic event is a 404km, five day flatwater race on the mighty Murray River. The 2009 race will start in Yarrawonga on the 27th December and head downstream to finish on New Year’s Eve in Swan Hill.
The Murray Marathon is one of world’s longest annual canoe races, covering a distance of 404km in five days, taking paddlers from Yarrawonga through to Swan Hill in Victoria, Australia. Up until 2008 the event was organised by Red Cross Victoria. Funds raised during the Marathon were channelled back into the provision of community programs and emergency services. YMCA have recently announced they will invest all excess funds into the social, environmental and economic sustainability of the Murray Region.
