Back to Back races

Back to back M200 Rehearsal races 14-15 May 2005

These two races were well attended in near perfect weather conditions last weekend. Day 1 on the Onkaparinga saw 26 paddlers on the water in an incident free race, the lack of water as the tide went out the only complaint. A number of keen paddlers travelled from Victor Harbor where there is an active nucleus of competitive canoeists based at Encounter Lakes.

Day 2 at West Lakes was an opportunity to show off the club’s new tent purchased with a recent Active Club grant. 33 paddlers, including 2 junior K4 teams enjoyed the unseasonally mild weather, a freshening wind later in the 28km race provided more challenging conditions.

Thanks to both Onkaparinga Canoe Club and West Lakes Canoe Club for the use of club facilities. 75% of all race fees are returned to the host clubs.

These races give paddlers the opportunity to fine tune not only their training but also the transportation of themselves and their equipment to different locations on subsequent days. Hopefully the weather for the M200 events in June is as good as this rehearsal weekend
